Soo… what again is Carrotmob??

by epuro on March 28, 2009

Some people are still a little confused about what CarrotMob can actually do. Well I checked out a fellow CarrotMob group from Kansas City and found some fun stats from their first attempt at changing society.

They Mobbed a liquor store and here are their results:

  • $7,015 Gross revenues
  • $1,683 Towards Green-ifying the Liquor Store
  • Avg Tuesday night gross: $1,500

So far they have been working on upgrading to highly efficient lighting and installing cooler insulation to reduce energy use.

Check out other CarrotMob blogs on our links area to the right.

We of course hope to show these mobs up!  Lets remind the world what a little Midwestern town can do, and that we truly care about sustainability!

Funding

by epuro on

IUSAWell, we just got funding approved by the Indiana University Student Association (IUSA-aid).  We purposely are doing this on a real small budget, or else it will pretty much defeat the entire idea/impact.  So thank IUSA next time you see those folks!  They paid for our posters!

New Crew Member!

So good news!  This past week I have been talking to IU’s new sustainability director, Bill Brown, about Carrotmob.  He loves the idea!  Not only has he offered great advice, but Bill has volunteered to assist us in the walk-through after the day of sales.  So he will help direct the money the business will set aside to the places that need it the most.  This will ensure that we get the best bang for the buck.  He has some great ideas that I can’t wait to be a part of implementing!

Finding a good business to partner with…

by epuro on March 25, 2009

So Eric, Morgan, and I walked around today to follow up with some of the prospective cafes. We walked in around lunchtime which looking back on it was not a great time to go in. The managers didn’t really have time for us, but we got a couple of interested managers who want us to email them, which is a good step. Amar and Phong went postering so keep a lookout for those, and feel free to print out your own and post them wherever you see fit! If you would like a good copy of the posters just send us an email at btowncarrotmob@gmail.com!  Things are really getting set into motion so spread the word and we’ll keep you updated on what’s going down.

Who wants our business??

by epuro on

So, Alana and I went to some local coffee shops around downtown this past Friday 3/6.  We included places even like the Runcible Spoon & Cafe Django for having nice espresso equipment.  In total we dropped the intial idea off at 10 total businesses.  Hopefully we will start hearing soon on which coffee shop can make the biggest contribution to become more sustainable!
